Five Minute Friday: Tree

Five Minute Friday

It's been a while, but here's another Five Minute Friday.  If you wanna join me, head over to  Five Minute Friday and join the fun!

The prompt is Tree.

GO:

I live in the land of cedar… it’s a far cry from the Pineywoods of home.  Turns out that I’m ridiculously allergic to cedar.  I’ve lived in Central Texas for 10 years now and it took 8 to catch the allergy.

I grew up in the middle of the National Forest.  We were less than a mile away.  When we moved in to our house when I was 8, Dana Dr was still a dirt road.  Our house was in constant need of sweeping because a portion of our road drifted in every time the door was opened…

Throughout my childhood our neighborhood grew and our piece of forest slowly disappeared.  What used to be a road surrounded with endlessly dense trees with deer stands and creeks and lots of critters are now houses.  Our beloved clay pit with the most amazing blackberries is now a big open pond.  It seems like everything has been cleared out and I almost don’t recognize the place anymore.

One of my favorite things in the whole world is the drive back home.

The drive through the National Forest

through the endless pine trees.

through the tunnel of trees with tops intersecting over the road.

It always brings back deep memories.

Crossing through green needles as they join in the middle to get to my childhood home.  The trees… the tunnel… it all feels like home.

STOP.
